On Sunday I did a day trip to Konark to visit the Sun Temple, one of the biggest tourist attractions in Orissa. It was a hot day and we were all suffering from a late one the night before, not helped by crowded buses and too much waiting around. But with a stop off for lunch at Honeybee in Puri to recuperate, we went off to the temple in the late afternoon when it was nice and cool to walk around. Konark Sun Temple was built in 13th-century, dedicated to the Sun God Surya, in the design of a huge chariot with wheels which still work as sun dials. The outside is covered in engravings - elephants and birds, dancers and warriors, and lots of stone age porn in the form of kama sutra! It's the most entertaining historic building I've been to I think, I got all giggly! It's quite funny that kama sutra comes from India, such a conservative culture. Here are some of the poses, for your amusement:
thought that middle one was a monkey first, but maybe a dwarf woman
it's interesting but funny too :D I honestly like the work you have done with Aaina. Very nice and I truly appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking of applying for VSO too. I used to work with AIF an NGO in India. Just wanted to know more about your experiences with VSO. Do let me know if we can connect over email/phone/skype. My email is ngchandan@gmail.com
Thanks,
Chandan.
Also here is the link to my personal blog and the official AIF blog which I used to maintain until May 2011
